I ran the 5k today. I had to walk the first 50 metres due to the crowd squashed into the small space. The next 500 metres, I was blocked by many slower runners and didn't manage to get enough room to run until about 800m. Even then I was running on the outside of the traffic cones splitting the dam into outgoing and incoming lanes. The middle 1k is run on a track that is also split into 2, leaving not enough room for the volume of runners. I can't understand how anyone would think this is a good route or venue for a mass participation 5k. You will probably get away with a 10K or half-marathon that begins on the roads away from the dam that are wide enough to cope with the volume of runners and includes the dam later on, out and back as the ending..
